According to police spokesperson Andrae Smith, she was later freed on a $10,000 bail.

Police stated that the event is being looked into as a hate crime and that "more charges may be pending."

The women opened up about the incident in an interview with CBS-DFW, stating they had just finished saying goodbye to one another in the parking lot when Upton approached them.

Upton can be heard calling the women "curry-ass bitches" and making fun of their weight as they called the police for assistance, according to a video of the event that one of the women, Rani Banerjee, shared on Facebook. Banerjee called it a "frightening experience."

In her essay, she said, "I have lived in [the Dallas-Fort Worth area] for 29 years and never have I felt so frightened, humiliated, and afraid for my life." This is what America has become, I can't believe it.

They "feared for [their] lives since she was incredibly upset and seemed absolutely out of control," according to another of the women, Bidisha Rudra, in a Facebook post.

Many individuals are inquiring as to what caused this conduct, Rudra wrote. "There is "nothing" in response. We were having a quiet talk when she walked by and shouted something racially offensive. as shown in the video, and came back numerous times to add fresh expletives. We are even more frightened as a result of this unwarranted attack."
